An ALE-Based Method for Reaction-Induced Boundary Movement Towards Clogging

چکیده
In this study, reaction-induced boundary movements in a thin channel are investigated. Here, precipitation-dissolution reactions taking place at the boundaries of the channel resulting in boundary movements act as a precursor to the clogging process. The resulting problem is a coupled ow-reactive transport process in a time-dependent geometry. We propose an ALE-based method (ALE arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian) to perform full 2D computations. We derive a 1D model that approximates the 2D solution by integrating over the thickness of the channel. The boundary movements lead in the limit to clogging when the ow gets choked for a given pressure gradient applied across the channel. Numerical tests of the full 2D model are consulted to con rm the theory.

A computational framework is presented for the simulation of eukaryotic cell migration and chemotaxis. An empirical pattern formation model, based on a system of non-linear reaction-diffusion equations, is approximated on an evolving cell boundary using an Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian surface finite element method (ALE-SFEM). The solution state is used to drive a mechanical model of the protru...
متن کاملTowards an Analytical Model for Film Cooling Prediction using Integral Turbulent Boundary layer
The objective of this work is to develop deep theoretical methods that are based on the solution of the integral boundary layer equations for investigating film cooling in liquid rocket engine. The integral model assumes that heat is transferred from hot free stream gas to the liquid film both by convection and radiation. The mass is transferred to the free srteam gas by the well-known blowing ...
متن کاملExtended ALE Method for fluid-structure interaction problems with large structural displacements
Standard Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) methods for the simulation of fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems fail due to excessive mesh deformations when the structural displacement is large. We propose a method that successfully deals with this problem, keeping the same mesh connectivity while enforcing mesh alignment with the structure. The proposed Extended ALE Method relies on a va...
متن کاملNumerical Study on the Reaction Cum Diffusion Process in a Spherical Biocatalyst
In chemical engineering, several processes are represented by singular boundary value problems. In general, classical numerical methods fail to produce good approximations for the singular boundary value problems. In this paper, Chebyshev finite difference (ChFD) method and DTM-Pad´e method, which is a combination of differential transform method (DTM) and Pad´e approximant, are applied for sol...

Considering the importance of predicting volcano eruption and the large number of volcanic peaks across the world, having enough researches in this field is vital. Based on geodetic researches, surface deformation of the earth in the form of uplift or subsidence in the volcanic region, is an indicator of the magma's movement respectively towards the crater or the exit from the tank around. In...
